Pacific Beach Town Council is made up of over 600 members with an annually elected Board of Directors and Officers serving 2 year terms. The board holds monthly meetings, open to the public to talk about the betterment and maintenance of Pacific Beach. Anyone who lives, works or just plays in Pacific Beach is able to join as a member.

The Town Council has a public office on Garnet street with loads of Pacific Beach and Mission Beach information as well as Old Town San Diego and other attractions around town. The Council has bylaws and standing rules you can read about on their website listed below. The monthly meetings iron out guidelines for a small town. The council is well respected by the San Diego City Council. The Pacific Beach Town Council also has a great deal to do with some of the many annual fanfares happening in Pacific Beach. You are welcome to join any number of the committees to promote, plan, and "make it happen". There are committees such as the Mission Bay Committee, Holiday Events, Wine Tasting, Beautification Committee and Concerts on the Green, just to name a few.

Crystal Pier in Mission BeachDuck hunting in Pacific Beach and a bit about the history!

You may not believe it but it´s true. Back in the December 12th issue circa 1887 a popular magazine called the Golden Era enticed new-comers to visit the California gold of a different kind. The Pacific Beach Company was the first to offer lots to build your Pacific Beach vacation home on as well as a swell place to duck hunt. It was already a popular area to get away from the hustle and bustle of the thriving Los Angeles metropolis.

Precisely a year later the Pacific Beach Presbyterian Church, then called the Community Church of Pacific Beach, was built on the corner of Jewell and Garnet. That same year brought the San Diego and Old Town Railway extension to Pacific Beach and the visitors and individuals looking for their piece of paradise along with it. Transportation was key to any small town then and now.

Too soon the developments turned to empty cottages as the depression found families losing their land and moving away. Those that stayed tried to produce quality lemons for other coastal towns and inland areas. That too fell short of the classic lemons coming from Sicily. The small town farmers could not compete.

Thanks to some "Never Say Die" real estate tycoons, an abandoned college was turned into a grand hotel called The Balboa Hotel; giving prospects a beautiful setting to think about buying property in Pacific Beach
. Lots were going for $25.00 each as some of the oldest residents told us during the 1987 100 Years Celebration. The Balboa Hotel is now the site of the Pacific Plaza Shopping Center.

Healthy Way to Live
Since the banning of all smoking and alcohol on the beaches of San Diego, Pacific Beach is fast becoming more popular with the prosperous crowd.

So many of us are GREEN conscious, banning smoking on the beautiful Crystal Pier and boardwalk was a no brainer.

Traveling by bike or walking down Garnet street will take you to the Pier and countless shops and restaurants and a wide variety of cuisine. There is also plenty of walking traffic for the many unique shops.
Mission Beach and La Jolla are neighbors to Pacific Beach via Mission Blvd and La Jolla Blvd.
