Parks and Recreation in Pacific Beach and Mission Beach


Campland in Pacific Beach is a great way to come visit the area and  have some fun in the sun at the same time. Celebrating their 40th year here, Campland has much to offer and many different rates. They have a skateboard park, volleyball, and access to the bay for your boat or skiing.  Their website can walk you through with a great photo gallery.

Belmont Park - With 6 different shops, lots of amusement rides and plenty to eat, this 33 acre park located at the south end of Mission Beach has a lot to offer since the 1920's! The entire project was the imagination of sugar mogul J.D. Spreckels who was also a major force in San Diego development.

Fanuel Street Park has perfect access to the Pacific Ocean and since it is inside the bay, there are no waves so little ones can run and splash in the water. Plenty of grass and a few trees to climb. Get there early as parking is limited. It is located at the end of Fanuel Street and La Palma Street.

Capehart Dog Park is separated into small dog and large dog park. Located on Soledad Mountain Road.

Kate Sessions Memorial Park is named after the landscape designer of Balboa Park, Kate Sessions is a 79 acre park with lots of grassy areas for picnics and family get together. Great for local horticulturists, and hikers alike. Kate Sessions has walking paths, playgrounds, and restrooms.

Pacific Beach Recreation Center located on Diamond Street has two lighted outdoor basketball courts. Tennis courts, lighted athletic field, volleyball, meeting rooms, kitchen and much more.

Mission Bay Park is a 4,235 acres park is approximately half land and half water and is the largest man-made public aquatic recreational area in the country. there are major volleyball events and Over The Line sporting events. Annual attendance in the park is estimated at 15 million!

Fiesta Island is for the dogs! Quite literally the island off of Mission Bay is perfect for dog and human alike. This is an off leash fenced area and dogs big and small are free to run for the water! There has been talk recently to allow development on the island. Fiesta Island Dog Owners, (FIDO) is a project of a California 501(c)3 not for profit corporation trying to preserve the island. They currently have over 3,600 members.
